In the wake of the recent DOJ opinion letter regarding the matter, a Michigan state senator has introduced a bill to make sure that his state does not pursue the idea of opening up lottery sales via the Internet.
Republican Mike Green introduced SB-1003, a measure which would amend the state’s lottery act and specifically prohibit selling tickets or shares of the state’s lottery over the Internet. The new bill has been referred to the committee for regulatory reform for consideration.
According to an article published by WNEM TV, Green says “Selling lottery tickets over the Internet benefits the government’s wallet and little else. It threatens local businesses and may potentially bring financial harm to Michigan residents. Online lottery sales runs counter to our goals of attracting new business, creating jobs and turning our state around.”
